It’s hard to be happy when you’re not healthy. When you are feeling physically down, it’s difficult to experience happiness. It takes a tremendous amount of work.

Studies have shown that people who meditate every day actually engage the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland creates and releases HGH into your body, which makes you feel better. It’s been cited that people who meditate are more relaxed, more peaceful, and generally happier. It’s much easier to be happy when you are relaxed and at peace.

Exercise is not just about aerobic capacity and muscle size. Sure, exercise can improve your physical health and your physique, trim your waistline, improve your sex life, and even add years to your life. But that’s not what motivates most people to stay active.

People who exercise regularly tend to do so because it gives them an enormous sense of well-being. They feel more energetic throughout the day, sleep better at night, have sharper memories, and feel more relaxed and positive about themselves and their lives. And it’s also powerful medicine for many common mental health challenges.

Diet is an extremely important part of this plan! When you have a bad diet, you keep lowering yourself into a less motivated, less energetic state. Too much sugar, for example, is going to cause you to have a burst of energy, and then nose dive. Too much of anything, really, is what causes problems, so finding a healthy diet that works for you is going to be absolutely critical.

Sleep may be the most important part of this plan. Sleep helps us thrive by contributing to a healthy immune system and can also balance our appetites by helping to regulate levels of the hormones ghrelin and leptin, which play a role in our feelings of hunger and fullness. When we’re sleep deprived, we may feel the need to eat more, which can lead to weight gain. The one-third of our lives that we spend sleeping is far from being “unproductive,” it plays a direct role in how full, energetic and successful the other two-thirds of our lives can be.

These four essentials, when used together, are easy ways to feel better and live a heathier lifestyle.
