Spirituality is the way you find meaning, hope, comfort and inner peace in your life. Many people find spirituality through religion. Some find it through music, art or a connection with nature. Others find it in their values and principles
No matter how you classify your spiritual identity, one question that seems to come up a lot is, “How does my spirituality affect my health?”
No one really knows. However, science has proven that the body, mind and spirit are connected. The health of any one of those three seems to affect the health of the others.
Some research shows that such things as positive beliefs, comfort and strength gained from religion, meditation and prayer can contribute to healing and a sense of well-being. Improving your spiritual health may not cure an illness, but it may help you to feel better, to prevent certain illnesses and to cope with illness or death.
Another question that arises from this is, “How could I strengthen my spirituality to make me heathier?”
Everyone is different, so what works for others may not work for you. Do what is comfortable for you. The following ideas are some easy ways to help you strengthen your spirit:
• Think about the things in your life that give you a sense of inner peace, comfort, strength, love and connection. Try to be a physical portrayal of those qualities.
• Set aside time every day to do things that help you spiritually. These may include volunteer work, prayer, meditation, singing, reading, walking, quiet time, yoga, or attending religious services.
• Use positive affirmations to keep you aware of the things in life that promote spiritual well-being. If you have a hard time forming them yourself, go to Google or Pinterest and search for affirmations that speak to you.
• Be grateful for everything in your life, take time to say thank you. Even challenges are a reason to be grateful, for, without challenges we would never grow, physically or spiritually.
Each person feels their best when they have a spiritual relationship with their higher power (God, Allah, Nature, the Universe). The belief that there is intelligent design at work in our lives gives us all a common denominator. If you truly want to be spiritually healthy, consider the needs of others and then treat them the way you would like to be treated.
When you bring spirituality into your overall health outlook, you will find yourself feeling more fulfilled and happier more often.
Have a great day!
